Author Guidelines

The journal values methodological diversity and clarity in scientific communication. Therefore, all elements of the manuscript must be presented in an organized and objective manner, consistent with internationally recognized editorial best practices, enabling readers from diverse fields to understand and assess the study's relevance.

Language and Linguistic Review

Manuscripts can be submitted in Portuguese, English, or Spanish and must exhibit clarity and grammatical correctness appropriate for scientific communication. Scientia Technologiae, aiming to broaden its global reach and impact, encourages the submission of manuscripts in English, a practice that favors international dissemination and scientific dialogue beyond linguistic borders.

While advisable, the prior use of a specialized linguistic review service is not mandatory for submission and does not determine the article's acceptance for peer review. The authors bear full and final responsibility for technical accuracy and textual quality.

In cases where the manuscript in English or Spanish presents significant linguistic deficiencies, the journal may request that the authors arrange for specialized revision before continuing the editorial process. The editorial team may perform editorial formatting and language adjustments to align with the journal's standard.

Graphical Abstract

The journal encourages the submission of a Graphical Abstract as a clear and attractive visual representation of the manuscript. This resource should highlight a central process or point of the study through a schematic and uncluttered image, employing visual elements such as icons, flowcharts, or diagrams to synthesize the research question, methodology, key results, and conclusion, replacing extensive textual descriptions.

The graphical abstract should be organized from top to bottom or left to right. Use the font from the manuscript and the same language, with a font size large enough for a rectangle 200 pixels high. Do not include the title "Graphical Abstract" or the manuscript title within the image file. Strategic and accessible use of color is recommended to guide attention, avoiding overly saturated tones and problematic combinations such as red/green.

The file, which must be original and created by the authors, should be submitted in TIFF, PNG, or JPG format, with minimum dimensions of 1,328 x 531 pixels (width x height), a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, and a maximum size of 5 MB. The editorial board will assess the material for clarity, relevance, and technical quality before publishing it alongside the article.

Manuscript Format for Submission

The manuscript to be submitted to the journal must not contain any author information and must be prepared according to the journal's proposed guidelines. Names, affiliations, personal acknowledgments, and references to previous work that identify the authors must be removed; file properties must also be anonymized. The editable template is available for download on the website.

 Template

Manuscripts should be organized in the following sequence: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Main Text, Acknowledgments, Funding, Author Contributions, Conflict of Interest, Data Availability, Ethical Compliance, and References.

• Title: Main words should be capitalized (initial letter uppercase), while secondary words (articles, prepositions, and conjunctions) should remain in lowercase.

• Abstract and Keywords: The abstract in Portuguese must be brief and informative, written in up to 250 words, highlighting especially the central objective, main results, and conclusion of the work. Following this, the translated English version must be provided. If the manuscript is written in Spanish, the Portuguese abstract should be replaced by the Spanish version.

• Authors: Provide the full first name(s) and citation surname of each author, but abbreviate middle surnames, if any.

• Text: The names of the sections in the template may be modified, provided they follow the logical sequence of scientific writing. Ensure that in-text citations correspond to APA style (https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/citations/basic-principles/author-date).

  • The methodology should be written as concisely as possible, but must contain all elements necessary to allow for the interpretation and replication of results. Detailed descriptions of already published methods should be avoided; a reference number can be provided to save space, with any new addition or variation declared. Authors are encouraged to cite in this section the deposit of detailed protocols in a free, recognized protocol-sharing platform of their choice, such as protocols.io, Zenodo, Figshare, Dryad, etc., providing the link or DOI of the deposit.

• Figures and Tables: Figures should be inserted in the body of the manuscript and submitted as supplementary files in their original format, gathered in a single compressed file with a maximum size of 5 MB. Each file should be identified with a corresponding name and number. Figures must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and can be submitted in TIFF, JPG, or PNG format. It is recommended to avoid unnecessary graphical elements, such as intense colors, shading, or exaggerated outlines. Graphs should favor simple patterns and symbols explained in the caption. Tables should be inserted in the body of the manuscript and in an editable format. All figures and tables must be cited in the text only indirectly, avoiding expository constructions like "Figure 1 shows...". Figures and tables should have their captions placed above the content and include explanations of abbreviations, if any.

• Acknowledgments: Not mandatory and can be filled in after manuscript approval by reviewers.

• Funding: Must declare when the research received institutional and/or financial support from the entities mentioned in the text, where applicable. If there is no external funding, declare that the study was conducted without receiving specific resources from public or private funding agencies, as in the example: "The authors declare there are no funding sources."

• Author Contributions: Each author must declare the type of contribution made to the manuscript, according to the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). To do so, insert the following list of contributions and inform the initials of the name of the author responsible for each item, as per the template:

  • Conceptualization: ARCC, AGV. Data Curation: TBHA. Formal Analysis: ARCC, TBHA. Funding Acquisition: ARCC, TBHA. Investigation: ARCC. Methodology: ARCC, TBHA. Project Administration: ARCC, TBHA. • Conflict of Interest: Authors must declare whether or not they have conflicts of interest that may have unduly influenced the conduct of the research or the interpretation of its results, for example: "The authors declare no conflicts of interest to report."

• Data Availability: Must declare how the research data can be accessed in full, using only one of the following statements:

  • (i) The data generated in this study are of a sensitive nature and therefore are not publicly available. However, they can be requested from the corresponding author upon justification and signing of a confidentiality agreement.

  • (ii) The complete data analyzed in this article can be accessed at XXXX [please inform the digital repository where the data are available here].

  • (iii) The complete data analyzed in this article are presented in the body of the manuscript.

• Ethical Compliance: Authors are fully responsible for complete compliance with all applicable ethical and legal requirements for their research. This statement is mandatory and must be inserted in the manuscript, with a clear indication of the situation applicable to the study. Lack of transparency or non-compliance may result in manuscript rejection. The editorial board reserves the right to request supporting documentation at any time.

  • A) Regarding humans, animals, and/or access to genetic heritage or associated traditional knowledge: Authors must declare full compliance with applicable ethical and legal requirements. For research involving humans, reference to the Declaration of Helsinki and inclusion of the institutional Ethics Committee approval number are mandatory. In studies with animals, international animal welfare guidelines must be followed; for research conducted in Brazil, the national legislation of CONCEA applies. Studies involving access to genetic heritage or associated traditional knowledge from Brazil must follow national guidelines and include the corresponding registration number. In the ethical compliance section, a declaration is mandatory, for example:

    • (i) "This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of [Institution] (CAAE: XXXXXX) and conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. All participants signed the Informed Consent Form."

    • (ii) "The experimental protocol was approved by the CEUA of [Institution] (Process no. YYYYY), following CONCEA guidelines and international norms for the care and use of animals in research."

    • (iii) "Access to genetic heritage was registered in SisGen under number [ABCD00000-XX]. The study followed Law no. 13.123/2015 and the guidelines of the Genetic Heritage Management Council."

    • (iv) "The authors declare that this research did not involve humans, animals, and/or access to genetic heritage or associated traditional knowledge."

  • B) Regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools: Although the use of AI does not automatically lead to the rejection of a submission, it will be done when the editors suspect misuse of the tool, possible factual errors, plagiarism, incorrect attributions, omission, or malpractice in the use of these tools that compromises content integrity and, consequently, negatively impacts the editorial process. It is important to note that AI tools should not be listed as co-authors in a scientific article. Recognition of authorship should be limited to individuals who contributed significantly to the development of the work, according to ethical criteria for scientific authorship. If used, it must be disclosed in writing, specifying the model used and its function, preferably in the methods sections. It is essential that authors verify the accuracy and validity of AI-generated content. Furthermore, the fabrication of false content must be avoided, and all information must be rigorously verified. In the ethical compliance section, a declaration of its use is mandatory, for example:

    • (i) "The authors declare that they used the language model X to assist in the initial drafting of the manuscript, but all scientific information was verified and referenced by original sources."

    • (ii) "The authors declare that this article was developed with the contribution of all listed authors. AI model X was used as an auxiliary tool and did not contribute directly to the authorship of the work."

    • (iii) "The authors declare that they did not use AI in any stage of the research and article preparation."

• References: May include books, scientific articles, legislation, and institutional documents that support the discussion and the theoretical-methodological construction of the study. All sources cited throughout the text must be properly identified, ensuring information traceability and the academic integrity of the presented content. It is recommended that, whenever available, the DOI or website be included at the end of the corresponding reference (e.g., https://doi.org/xxxxx). The journal accepts only one bibliographic citation style per manuscript, APA (https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references/examples). Manuscripts that present a mix of styles or that adopt outdated norms of this standard will not be accepted.

The sections Funding, Author Contributions, Conflict of Interest, Data Availability, and Ethical Compliance are mandatory.

Submission

Upon submission, the author must associate the manuscript with the intended section: Article; Note; Editorial; or Special Section.

In the electronic form and in the final version of the article (post-corrections), the inclusion of the ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) code for each author is mandatory in both the manuscript file and the submission form. If the author does not yet have an ORCID code, it can be obtained on the official ORCID website (https://orcid.org/).

Authorship should be attributed exclusively to individuals who have contributed substantively to the conception, planning, execution, or interpretation of the study. All those who performed relevant contributions must be identified as co-authors. If there are participants who acted in specific or auxiliary aspects of the research project but whose participation does not constitute authorship, these individuals should be properly acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section or listed as collaborators. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all eligible co-authors, and only they, are included in the manuscript, as well as ensuring that all have read and approved the final version of the work and agreed to its submission for publication.

After submission via the journal's electronic system, the author must register, in the "Pre-evaluation Discussion" tab, a brief presentation of the manuscript intended for the editor-in-chief. In this space, at least four possible reviewers must be suggested, including full name, institution, and email, in addition to indicating reviewers who are not recommended, with a brief justification. It is important to avoid conflicts of interest when listing potential reviewers, such as including advisors, co-authors, or frequent collaborators. Despite the suggestions, the final decision on reviewer selection rests solely with the responsible editor.

Post-Review

When returning the final version with the corrections suggested by the reviewers, the authors must include a cover page with information related to the authors, as per the manuscript template available on the journal's website.

The final proof of the article will be sent for verification, and at this stage, only typographical corrections will be accepted.

Errors in Published Works

If an author identifies, after publication, any relevant error or inaccuracy in the article, they must immediately notify the journal's editorial board and collaborate fully in issuing a correction or retraction, according to the nature and severity of the identified problem.

If the editorial board is informed by third parties that a published article contains a significant error, it is the author's responsibility to respond promptly, either by making the necessary correction or by presenting clear evidence justifying the maintenance of the original content.
